On a car trip this weekend, deep in the heart of rural America, I stopped at a business that sold biker apparel of all sorts. American flag bandannas, t-shirts with a skeleton hand showing the middle finger gesture, gloves with spikes on the knuckles, knives with skulls on them, collars with spikes, and so on.
In the middle of all of that? A “Jesus” patch with the Christian fish symbol. I was startled, amused, confused, and fascinated all at the same time. Those are the times when you reach in the side pocket of your cargo shorts and grab your iPhone to take a picture.
Now, granted, there are many Christian motorcyclists in America. Look no further than Bikers for Christ. But, in a place where you’re surrounded by alcohol, marijuana leaves, cigarettes, and apparel depicting everything but Christianity, one simply doesn’t expect to find this in the middle of it.
As Freddie Mercury puts it in the last verse of the song “Fat Bottomed Girls” on the “Jazz” album, get on your bikes and ride! Shoot photos, not each other!
