I’ve never actually posted this photo before because, to be honest, I’ve not had any idea what to do with it. It’s a Kodak Gold 100 film negative from the 1990’s shot with a flash. As it was, everything was washed out to the point of having it look like a brick wall with nothing else visible.
This is actually a shot of the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. How did we salvage? Severe highlight reduction after the fact. It was shot in the winter at 4:00 in the afternoon when the sun was already setting. Coming through the window behind me, I actually discovered this slight glow long after the fact when it was revealed in computer software, after scanning direct off the film negative. The original print from Costco in the 90’s never looked even close to that, and it couldn’t be modified to reveal that when scanned.
Given that it’s Good Friday, an image of the cross as the sun is going down seems rather appropriate. May your Easter be of great depth and meaning – assuming the holiday applies to you. Whatever faith applies, shoot photos, not each other!
