It’s That Time Again…

As it was in 2020, the United States of America is stuck with a difficult choice in the selection of our executive leader. I will say to Americans only one simple thing – vote your conscience. Don’t skip this election, vote any way your state permits you to. I chose to take advantage of early voting opportunities this time, so today I will be kicking back to watch all the news coverage on television with no worries about whether I can make it to the poll or not.

I’m rewinding the clock a bit here – to a very cold night in December of 2001. Being just after 9/11, there were no tourists to be found. Those that flew in were business travelers landing at Dulles airport far out in Northern Virginia. However, locals were still welcome. I was out seeking photos of the national Christmas tree. In this era the American flag was the biggest trend ever. Everybody had to have a large flag, and government buildings, such as the Old Executive Office Building that I have a shot of here, were no exception. This was shot on Fuji Superia 1600 film. Yes, they really did make color film that fast. In these modern times, I don’t think anybody needs to bring that particular variety of film back. The slower 100 and 200 film speed that the majority of companies make today works just fine. I was on my way back to the metro station. By looking, you’d never guess it was only 20 degrees (F) outside. For some reason, the gate was open, and while there were security personnel all around, nobody seemed to care that I was out taking pictures at 9:00 at night. I greeted security guards and said a friendly hello, so it’s not like I was sneaking around.

The question now is who will be next to oversee the workers in this building after today is over? Will the American people make history, or will the American people become history? Regardless of where you may stand politically, shoot photos, not each other!
