At first, I thought this film negative was unsalvageable. The batteries abruptly died as I was snapping this photo. The battery died and the shutter hung open for what felt like a second, though I would think if it was that long, it would be blurrier.

Here’s the raw negative scan before editing. Given that the camera date had reverted to the date of January 1, 1998, I would say the battery was very, very far gone. I actually shot the photo in 2020. As can be seen it is severely over exposed and took some damage when I put fresh batteries in, at which time the mirror came down and the film advanced.

Good editing software doesn’t cost a lot. For that matter, it doesn’t cost anything. Shoot photos, not each other!
