Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis-Salvare

At first, I thought this film negative was unsalvageable. The batteries abruptly died as I was snapping this photo. The battery died and the shutter hung open for what felt like a second, though I would think if it was that long, it would be blurrier.

Nikon N75, Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens, Kodak Pro 100, Unicolor C-41 chemistry, Pacific Images Film Scanner, GIMP

Here’s the raw negative scan before editing. Given that the camera date had reverted to the date of January 1, 1998, I would say the battery was very, very far gone. I actually shot the photo in 2020. As can be seen it is severely over exposed and took some damage when I put fresh batteries in, at which time the mirror came down and the film advanced.

Good editing software doesn’t cost a lot. For that matter, it doesn’t cost anything. Shoot photos, not each other!
