Evening Station

On a bitterly cold 20 degree winter evening I shot this picture. This is the first time I’ve tried to do anything at night on a “full-frame” camera, as people go home from work, or go to work, needing gas all the same. I’ve always wanted to photograph this gas station at night. I’m not sure why, but with the reds and greens, and the dinosaur signage, it just seemed like an interesting photo to take. To make it really interesting, I shot it with the fastest lens in my collection, wide open at 1.4. At full frame resolution, I was still getting an amazing 1/60 of a second shutter speeds in the dark of night.

Camera Model Name : NIKON D610
Exposure Program : Aperture-priority AE
Aperture : 1.4
Shutter Speed : 1/60
Lens ID : AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G

I was torn over whether to do it in color and black and white. While I do have an affinity for monochrome, I am still feeling like I am in my color era. All the same, I did do a monochromatic edit as well.

As the sadness continues to be pervasive in American news headlines, there only one thing I can think to say to all of you visiting me from all over this planet. No matter what your stance is on faith or politics – shoot photos, not each other.
