In my previous review of the Opteka 650-1300mm zoom lens I showed off what my wife got me for Christmas. Considering I got her the Marvel Cinematic Universe blu ray box set for Christmas, it seems fitting that I nickname this lens “Thor.”
Opportunities to use such large zoom lenses have to be selected carefully. Having said that, we’re getting the first accumulating snow of the season today and it seemed like a good chance to find out what else this lens can do.
Very large zoom lenses are difficult even for the most experienced of professionals, and while I may be experienced, I do not claim to be a professional. The learning curve of a big manual lens is rather clear.
Astoundingly, these were shot at the minimum length of 650mm. Even more astounding – I managed to shoot these freehand at an ISO of 6400 getting shutter speeds upwards of 1/2000 of a second.
Shoot photos, not each other!
